Neuroma

A neuroma is a growth or swelling of a nerve usually due to trauma or compression. As the nerve swells, it can be felt as a popping sensation when walking. Pain is intermittent and is aggravated by anything that results in further pinching of the nerve.

Neuromas can occur anywhere on the foot where nerves are present and are named in accordance to the location. A neuroma is called a plantar neuroma when its location on the sole of your foot, while one located between the 3rd and 4 toe is known as a Morton’s Neuroma. Morton’s Neuroma is the most common type of neuroma on the foot.

Symptoms

- Burning, tingling, numbness

- Pain while walking that can radiate up the leg or down the foot

- Popping sensation while walking

- Surgical removal of nerve
