Ingrown Toenail Correction
An ingrown toenail can be one of the most painful conditions a patient can have. Not only is pain usually constant, but it could also lead to infections, ulcerations, or bone complications if left untreated. Thus, it is always best to have your ingrown toenails treated before it gets any worse.
Dr. Jenson uses a technique that not only fixes the problem, but it usually prevents it from ever coming back. Thus, the patient is at comfort knowing this is a one-time procedure. Dr. Jenson likes to make sure the patient receives the best quality of care with minimal pain and recovery time, which is why he uses a vast array of equipment to make the procedure as pain-free as possible.
Considered an in-office surgery, the visit will usually take 30 minutes. First, the patient is injected with an anesthetic to numb all the nerve groups in the area of the toe. The injection is performed with a cold spray, which helps the patient minimally feel the shot. In fact, most do not even realize when the injection is stuck into their toe, a benefit patients are grateful for. Once the area becomes numb, special equipment is used to remove the borders of the nail that are embedded into the skin. Because he believes in preservation, Dr. Jenson removes only centimeters off of the nail, while exposing that portion’s roots. He then uses acid to kill the root to prevent an ingrown from reoccurring. Finally a dressing is placed on the nail and the procedure is finished.
While the patient leaves, they are given a care kit that is essential to help in the recovery process. The care kit includes an, antibiotic prescription, a special gel to promote healing, gauze, co-band wraps, and instructions for treatment. The patient is required to use the kit and soak their feet in Epsom salts twice a day to get the best results. A follow-up visit is usually scheduled two weeks after the procedure.
